Story of Kaity Joy
Background Story
All my life, I've loved creating art. Drawing, painting, crafting, pottery, all of the above. I learned to draw very young, and I took every art class possible in high school. I have also always loved reading; another favorite past-time of mine.

I remember realizing in high school that it would be very difficult to get a degree and find a job creating art the way I wanted to. At the time, my heart was with fine arts and using my hands to create, so I didn't think digital art would fill the artistic need for me that I so desired. I briefly attended a community college with goals to become an elementary art teacher, but I also quickly realized how extremely competitive that job would be as not all schools have art programs.

I basically skipped college and jumped straight into working. For the most part, I've been working full time since I was about 19 years old.
I stopped making art almost completely, aside from the occasional craft or homemade gift for family. But I was not consistently expressing myself creatively, and a void was growing that needed to be filled.

It wasn't until years later, shortly after I had my son and was simultaneously bombarded with a global pandemic, that I started brainstorming ways that I could supplement our household income using my creative talents. I started with an Etsy shop for digital printables, and learned to use the online application Canva to design. Fast forward to 2022, I happened upon a Youtube video that explained how to self-publish books through Amazon KDP specifically using Canva to format and design them. I decided to give it a shot, and here we are!

There has been an incredible learning curve in writing, designing, formatting, illustrating and self publishing my own books. Most authors go through multiple avenues to pay editors, publishers, illustrators, etc to do all of the above for them on the most professional level.

I still have a lot of learning to do, but so far I absolutely LOVE making these books. It has given me a creative outlet that has filled that creative void I've had for so long.
I love reading to my little one, and I can only hope to inspire and encourage him to continue to love reading as he gets older. I hope my books can do that for him, and children everywhere.
